Our Materials

ORGANIC COTTON

We work closely with all our suppliers to source the best raw material produced in ways which do not hurt people, animals or the environment. The only cotton we use is organic and is exclusively 100% GOTS certified. GOTS is a stringent certification body that guarantees the traceability of organic cotton from the field to the finished garment. Organic cotton comes from non genetically modified seeds and is grown without the use of chemical pesticides, insecticides or fertilisers. Why is this important? Well, the water used in growing cotton flows into the soil, and adjoining rivers, lakes and seas. As you can imagine, the addition of chemicals into this chain is a disaster for all trees, animals and humans involved. As a result, growing cotton organically allows clean water to return to the soil and other water sources without causing any harm.

Instead of chemicals our farmers use natural methods such as crop rotation, which help in creating biodiversity, enrich the soil and promote a better quality of life for the farmers and their communities.

Comparison Fact - organic cotton represents 16% of the world's insecticides commonly found in your fast fashion items. 200,000 people die from toxic exposure to pesticides per year across the world, according to the UN.

RECYCLED POLYESTER

Recycled polyester is used to add stability and strength to our clothing.

We only use recycled polyester because we are set on tackling plastic waste which has become one of the major environmental challenges.

At the same time, recycling polyester allows for considerable energy savings in the manufacturing process (33-53%).

450 million metric tons of plastic are produced every year and 9.5 million tons of plastic are thrown into the ocean annually, most of it single-use.

How is a plastic bottle turned into clothing?

Recycled polyester is produced from post-consumer PET bottles, the same clear plastic bottles used for bottled water which would otherwise go to landfill or end up in our oceans.

These bottles are first cleaned, melted and purified. Then the liquid is blown into yarn to create clothing fabrics. Our recycled polyester yarn is sourced mainly from China.

ORGANIC LINEN

Organic linen comes from flax farmed without any use of chemical inputs, and using crop rotation encourages biodiversity.

Organic linen accounts for only 1% of linen produced, so it is a very rare fibre and its price tends to reflect that. By investing in organic linen though you can enjoy the many benefits of linen while knowing you are supporting a farming process at the forefront of sustainability.

When it’s untreated linen is a biodegradable fabric meaning you don’t need to worry about your clothing going to waste at the end of its lifetime!
